The Merchant Adventurers Hall
York
The Guildhall was built by an association of influential craftsmen and women who came together to form a religious fraternity in 1357.
The Great Hall is the largest timber framed structure still standing in the UK. It was in here that the Guild of Merchant Adventurers would transact their business affairs. Documentation relating to Guild businesses and accounts from the 14th Century are held at York University.
As well as conducting business and holding social events the building also had a chapel for Prayer and an Undercroft which was used to look after the poor and the sick.
Today it can be booked as a venue for Weddings and Private Functions.
