York Sports Club

York Sports Club is a sports and social venue at Clifton Park on Shipton Road, with a lounge bar, sports facilities and rooms for private hire. The setting brings together four established local clubs covering rugby, tennis, cricket and squash, giving the venue an active, community-focused character throughout the year.

The lounge bar is suited to meeting friends and enjoying a post-match drink in an informal club environment. Food and drink also form part of the venue’s function offer, with catering available for booked occasions. The club does not present itself as a specialist restaurant, so its appeal lies more in the combination of hospitality, sport and flexible event space than in a particular cuisine.

Four function rooms are available for hire, making the venue suitable for private celebrations, meetings, conferences and other organised gatherings. The rooms provide a practical base for occasions connected with the sports clubs, as well as events with no sporting focus. Viewing appointments can be arranged for anyone considering the spaces, with arrangements handled directly by the club.

The sporting side covers a wide range of ages and abilities. York Rugby Club includes junior and senior sections for male and female players, along with a veterans’ team. York Tennis Club offers club play, coaching and competitive teams, with junior membership also available. York Cricket Club has men’s, women’s, junior and senior sections, while York Squash Club provides courts and coaching for beginners and experienced players.

That mix gives York Sports Club a straightforward, sociable feel. It can work for sports members looking for a place to gather after playing, for organisations needing meeting or conference space, and for groups arranging a celebration or private function. The venue’s Clifton Park location also places the bar and event rooms within a wider sports setting rather than a conventional town-centre hospitality environment.

General enquiries, venue-hire questions and viewing requests can be made by telephone or email. The lounge bar is listed as open every day from noon until late, although arrangements for functions and catering should be confirmed with the club in advance.
