Description

Victorian Industries Tour: Discover the stories of Victorian York, including the city’s famous railway and chocolate industries. We’ll also visit the hidden reminders of printing, gas lamps, and flour milling, and explore the stories of some of the quirky and useful inventions which came from 19th century York. Includes: Railway Station area; Leetham’s Mill; Stonegate; Minster area; The Shambles. Distance 2.8km (approx. 1.75 miles). Standard tour length: 1 hour 30 mins - 1 hour 45 mins. Begins at Memorial Gardens (near the Railway Station) and finishes near The Shambles. The standard tour includes a short section of city wall footpaths. Led by Chris Geeson – tour guide, museums’ learning facilitator, and workshop leader. All tours are aimed at KS2 or KS3 but can be adapted. Group sizes should be up to around 30 pupils, plus accompanying adults (ratio of 1 adult to 8 children). Youth groups and home school groups also welcome.
