Description
Enjoy a one-hour private hire of a self-steer motorboat, discovering York from the river. Your boat accommodates up to five people, giving ample space for a group aquatic adventure.
You’ll receive comprehensive instructions on operating the boat, including safety guidelines and river rules. Life jackets are provided for children aged 10 and under.
The operating route allows you to view the city’s riverside throughout the hour. A 30-minute hire option covers the main built-up section of the River Ouse, with the ability to navigate downstream to the Millennium Bridge and return to the moorings.
Please note boats cannot pass Clifton Bridge or the Millennium Bridge and mooring or disembarking is only permitted at King’s Staith, where the hire begins.

Important Information
- Hire sessions start hourly between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM on weekdays, and at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM on weekends and Bank Holidays. Expect up to a 15-minute wait during peak times.
- The hirer must be at least 18 years old and provide valid ID at booking.
- Alcohol is strictly prohibited on board; anyone under the influence will be denied access.
- Picnic hampers and soft drinks are allowed on the boat.
- A £40 cash security deposit is required at the time of hire.
- Online pre-booking with GetYourGuide is necessary, but all conditions of hire must be met upon arrival or access will be refused.
