Description
Explore Roman York with this tour featuring the remains of a mighty fortress, Roman walls, a Roman column at York Minster, and the statue of Emperor Constantine. Learn what life was like for Roman soldiers, and hear stories about emperors, gladiators, and local legends. The route covers approximately 1.5 km (just under 1 mile), starting at Exhibition Square and finishing outside York Minster.
The tour is led by Chris Geeson, an experienced guide and museums’ learning facilitator. It is designed primarily for KS2 and KS3 school groups but can be adapted. Group sizes are recommended at up to 30 pupils. Youth and home school groups are also welcome. The standard duration is 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. Other available tours cover topics such as Medieval York, 2000 Years of York History, Crime and Punishment, and Victorian Industries.
