Step back in time to medieval York by exploring well-preserved buildings connected to monks, kings, soldiers, and locals. Visit the ruins of the largest Benedictine abbey in the North, hear about York Castle and nearby battles, and see York Minster along with its medieval streets.

The route covers approximately 2.5 km (1.5 miles), starting at Exhibition Square and concluding outside Clifford’s Tower.

The tour is led by Chris Geeson, a museum learning facilitator and workshop leader. It is aimed primarily at KS2 and KS3 groups but can be adapted as needed. Group sizes are typically up to 30 pupils. Youth and home school groups are also welcome. The standard duration is 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.
