Description
The tour covers key sites including Clifford’s Tower, Georgian gaol buildings, The Shambles, and Dick Turpin’s Grave. It reveals stories of criminals such as Guy Fawkes and Margaret Clitherow, as well as exploring historic punishments and questions of justice and fairness.
The route is approximately 2.65 km (1.65 miles), starting at Clifford’s Tower and ending outside York Minster. Chris Geeson, a professional tour guide and museum learning facilitator, leads the tour. Group size is recommended at up to 30 pupils with a ratio of one adult per eight children. Youth and home school groups are welcome, and the tour duration is between 1 hour 30 minutes and 1 hour 45 minutes.
