Your adventure begins at York Railway Station, a magnificent Victorian railway wonder that many visitors rush through without stopping to appreciate. Here, we’ll uncover some of the stories and secrets hiding in the station before making our way towards one of York’s medieval gateways, where you’ll hear the fascinating tales surrounding this historic entrance to the city.
Next, it’s time for a proper York pub pitstop. Tucked away down a cobbled lane, a centuries-old pub awaits, offering the chance to enjoy a lovely pint of local ale while soaking up some of the city’s character. From there, we’ll meander past the riverside and make a stop for another drink, this time at a handsome Georgian ‘house’ just outside the former walls of St Mary’s Abbey, where great craft beer is on the menu.
Then we'll stroll through the beautiful Museum Gardens, exploring this peaceful patch of green and keeping an eye out for a few of its lesser-known secrets.
We’ll then dive into York’s famous ‘snickelways’, wandering through quirky passageways, courtyards and hidden cut-throughs where unexpected sights and stories are often just around the corner, including a great vantage point of York Minster and a wonderful, wonky-floored pub.
Finally, we’ll finish the tour in classic York fashion: with another drink at a great public house hiding in plain sight.
