Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Edinburgh, follow the East Lothian coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed, then visit Bamburgh Castle. Continue along the historic Great North Road to York for a two-night stay.
Day 2: Explore York’s medieval centre before heading to North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Have lunch in Whitby, a fishing port linked to Bram Stoker. Visit Robin Hood’s Bay, then return to York.
Day 3: Travel west into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, passing through the Northern Dales and cattle trade areas. End the day in Keswick for overnight accommodation.
Day 4: Visit the ancient Castlerigg stones, then walk to Aira Force waterfall near Ullswater. Stop at Lake Windermere for a cruise or lunch, then visit Hawkeshead village. End with free time in Grasmere at Dove Cottage or the Daffodil Garden before returning to Keswick.
Day 5: Climb Hartside Pass with views of Scotland and the Lake District. Visit Hadrian’s Wall, cross into Scotland, stop at Jedburgh Abbey ruins, then end at Scott’s View before returning to Edinburgh.
