Micklegate Social

Micklegate Social is a social venue and event space at 148-150 Micklegate in York. Its format combines a place for social occasions with facilities for private hire, student use and film-related events. The venue presents itself as suitable for gatherings of different sizes, making it relevant to both smaller functions and larger group occasions.

Private hire is a central part of the venue. Event spaces are available for groups from 15 to 60 people, giving organisers a choice of setting for meetings, celebrations and other occasions. The venue’s event offering is designed around group use rather than a single fixed format, with enquiries handled separately from general contact.

Micklegate Social also has a student space, adding a dedicated use connected with student life. Its programme includes cinema club showings, while the social newsletter covers event news and venue offers. Together, these elements give the venue a community-focused character, with regular activity alongside private events.

The setting is on Micklegate, a street close to York’s city centre, making the venue straightforward to reach for local groups and visitors staying in the city. Its late closing time suits evening gatherings, while the longer daytime opening from Friday to Sunday gives weekend events more flexibility. Tuesday to Thursday opening begins at 16:00, with closing at midnight each day.

Micklegate Social suits organisers looking for a dedicated place for a group event, student groups seeking a suitable space, and people interested in cinema club activity. It is best approached as a flexible social and events venue rather than a restaurant-led destination. Event enquiries can be sent to jim@micklegatesocial.com or made by telephone on 07716 896539. General enquiries can be directed to mike@micklegatesocial.com.
