January

The celebrations begin with the annual Residents Festival in York during the weekend of 28th and 29th January, this is a chance for York residents, with a valid York card, to visit some of the attractions that York is so famous for free of charge. Many restaurants have special resident’s offers and menu’s over this weekend.

This year the local radio staion, Minster FM, had a roadshow in Parliament street where they played music and had special guests including a free zumba class where the residents, visitors and even the Vikings took part!

Information is available before and during the weekend to let people know which attractions and restaurants are taking part in the festival.

Yorkshire Museum

In the Yorkshire Museum students from York College were running workshops on theatrical make up, mask making and prop making. Hoping to encourage local residents to volunteer to become involved in the York Mystery plays which take place in August.  The girl in the photo enjoyed being made up to look as if she had cut her forehead.

Minster FM live roadshow

In Parliament Street the local radio station, Minster FM, held a live roadshow and was joined at one point by a local Zumba instructor who encouraged the public to have a go at Zumba in Public. Some very enthusiastic Vikings were willing to join in the fun.
